Kansai Gaidai University, located in Hirakata, Osaka, Japan, was originally established in 1945 as a small, private language school. The univeristy has two campuses (Nakamiya and Hotani) both located in Hirakata city near Osaka city. “Kansai” refers to the area centering Osaka, Kyoto, Nara and Kobe, where Hirakata city is.

The university lies in an ideal situation, geographically advantageous being only just over half an hour via train to central Osaka (the second largest business metropolis behind Tokyo) and Kyoto which is synonymous with “Japan’s rich tradition.” It is considered to be located in the “cultural heart” of Japan, with many nearby destinations well utilized through field trips and the sort by students of Kansai Gaidai.

Each year, Kansai Gaidai sees a large inflow and outflow of students through various University-administered Study Abroad Programs, being the largest international program of its type in Japan. Kansai Gaidai currently holds formal affiliations with 319 institutions of higher learning from 50 different countries! (As of March 2009).
